Overall Value of the Experience:

"Speak as much as possible. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Don’t be shy because we are the foreign students and we have to take the extra step to give ourselves as many opportunities for learning as possible. Think positively. Don’t get discouraged if you feel the first month or two are not going well. It takes time for your body and mind to adjust and be motivated to do your best in making your stay enjoyable and memorable and rewarding."

Cultural Activities:

"There are almost an endless number of clubs and circles to join, however finding them can be difficult.  Club events and activities are often well publicized by people handing out flyers and on billboards. I participated in the “Waseda Illumination Project” which decorated and lighted the trees around the campus. It was fun, and I made lots of friends from it. Also the Waseda International Club and “Rainbow” Club have regular activities that I occasionally go to. "

Living in Tokyo:

The Location:

"Tokyo is a great city to travel abroad. It has an endless number of things to do and is truly different from almost anything in the United States it seems. Foreigners are generally treated very well, especially if one is respectful of customs and tries to speak Japanese. The size and eccentricities of the city itself make it a very fun learning experience."

Accommodations:

"Definitely, living with a host family is the single most significant factor in my learning not only the language, but the culture and customs of Japan. I strongly recommend staying with a host family."

"Host family, host family, host family!!  The daily contact with the host family and the relationship I formed with them is invaluable."

On-Site Support:

"Marie Sato was awesome!"

"Marie is wonderful and I don’t know what I would have done without her."
