Introduction to Korea
With 10 million inhabitants, Seoul takes its place among the world’s great metropolitan areas. As the political and economic center of South Korea, it is a fascinating venue from which to study South Korea’s increasingly important role in global politics and business. Seoul is blessed with an abundance of museums, cultural and entertainment opportunities, providing great experiences to the student wanting to be at the crossroads of Asian cultures!
The Oregon University System (OUS) offers two distinct academic exchange programs in Seoul, one at Yonsei University, and one at Ewha Women's University. Both program models offer Korean language courses together with a broad range of topical courses taught in English or Korean. Yet the universities themselves are very different and those differences result in two distinct program opportunities for OUS students.
Ewha Women's University
Ewha Women’s University is often ranked in the top five South Korean universities. A comprehensive university, Ewha’s international programs and its continuing education programs are open to male and female students. The international education program at Ewha is noted for its strong offerings in Korean language and culture, as well as highly personalized and individualized program offerings.
Yonsei University
Yonsei University is purported to be one of the three most prestigious universities in South Korea. The university’s high stature makes it a popular destination for international students. As a result, Yonsei’s international program is far larger, with a broad cross selection of students from all over the world.
