Overall Value of the Experience

“I love Mexican culture people altogether. It’s absolutely amazing.”

“Stay for a year if you can! One semester is okay, but a full academic year really gives you the chance to know Mexico.”

“My experience is Mexico was outstanding. I improved my language abilities in Spanish much more rapidly than I ever anticipated.”

“Traveling on the weekends was a wonderful way to get to know the whole diversity of Mexico. We just didn’t realize what an amazing place Mexico is.”

Academic Program

“The classes are really small so we have a lot of interaction with the teachers.”

“UDLA is such an incredible campus. The colors are amazing and the gardens are gorgeous.”

Living in Puebla

“My dorm mates were welcoming after I made the first move. It’s unrealistic to expect the Mexican students to open up to you if you don’t make an effort. Once I made that effort, I felt like “one of the gang.”

“Unless you have a really unusual situation, I wouldn’t recommend getting an apartment on your own. My other international friends who lived on-campus made friends easier and didn’t hassle with landlords and different rental issues.”

Finances

“Don’t come to Mexico expecting to live like royalty because you think everything will be inexpensive. I found that I was able to do quite a bit of travelling on weekends IF I was careful with my money.”

On-Site Support

“The staff of the International Relations office were helpful and willing to listen. I found that I to be more independent though because I didn’t have a resident director.”
