“Host family was awesome! I took advantage of the bus system and traveled around Spain nearly every weekend. Those experiences are priceless. It was great, so many great memories, so many new things to see. Everything I saw, heard, ate, etc put a new idea into my head. I had no idea what I thought about Spain before I left, because in the US it's one of those seldom heard of countries. So going there I had few expectations or stereotypes. I learned a lot about the country though, just by seeing it. It was great. I learned that we're really not as different as we think we are.”

“Remember that in class, you're still in school. Just because you're in another country doesn't mean you're on vacation. Be respectful, act like a student. Don't talk during class, don't eat in class, don't get up during someone's presentation...just be respectful. And always ask if you don't understand. SPEAK UP! You're there to learn, they're there to teach!”

“Travel as much as your wallet allows! Take advantage of night buses to save on hostels...sometimes the dive hostels aren't so bad...hostel world.com is a miracle! Travel travel travel!”

“Take advantage of your host families. Talk to them about whatever. Tell them about your day, about the US, about something new you learned, ask them questions about the language, ask them to correct you, use them!”

“Be comfortable. If you know you'll want to wear sweatpants or a sweatshirt around the house or to bed...bring them. I didn't and it's nearly the only thing I wear back home so I was pretty homesick for my comfy clothes. Bring them! Or if you exercise, bring the exercise clothes even if people say it's uncommon to exercise in public.”

“Santander was the best two months of my life. Living with a Spanish speaking family took me to the next level in my Spanish fluency. I really think it's the only way to completely learn another language.”

“I made some of my best friends while studying in Santander. It really is an experience that I will never forget.”

“Living in Santander gave me the opportunity to experience the Spanish culture and language on a daily basis. I was also able to travel around Europe while living in Spain. The experience opened my eyes to so many new things!”
