Korean Language and International Undergraduate Studies at Yonsei and Ewha Universities

This Oregon University System exchange program offers you the opportunity to study at either Yonsei University or Ewha Womans University for the summer, semester, or academic year. Through the international programs division of each university you can take courses in Korean language as well as English language courses in culture and society, economics, business, history, and international relations. Your classmates will be a diverse group of international students. In addition, you may take regular university courses with Korean students since an increasing number of such classes are offered in English. If proficient in Korean, you may also take regular university courses taught in Korean. A full listing can be found on each university’s website:
http://www.yonsei.ac.kr/~ysid or http://iei.ewha.ac.kr.

Depending on how many courses you take, you should receive approximately the same number of credits from your program in Seoul as you would being a full-time student in Oregon. You will be registered at your home campus in the OUS (or at an OUS partner institution) and will receive credit from that institution. Consult with your academic advisor and Campus Contact to determine how coursework done in Korea will integrate with your home campus curriculum requirements.

The OUS requires that you attend the day-long pre-departure orientation that covers the academic, administrative, financial and cultural information necessary for successful participation.

Universities

Yonsei University
Established in 1885, Yonsei University has grown in prestige and population over the years. Now with over 30,000 students in a wide range of disciplines, Yonsei is one of Korea’s premier private universities. The University is located in a large wooded campus near Seoul’s city center with easy access to public transportation and the sights of the city. The Division of International Education offers a wide range of coursework to students from around the world.

Ewha Womans University
While traditionally a women’s university, Ewha has developed extensive co-ed international and continuing education programs. Founded in 1886, Ewha Womans University has built a reputation for providing exceptional educational and leadership opportunities for its students. Located in the vicinity of Shinchon, a safe university neighborhood in a bustling cosmopolitan setting, Ewha offers, in contrast, a serene and beautiful campus. Its convenient location, with a subway line just outside the main gate, provides easy access to the entire Seoul metropolitan area and beyond.

Housing

Most students live in recently renovated dormitories located on campus. At Yonsei University, you may take meals at the student union or off-campus. The Ewha dormitory has a cafeteria. You may live off-campus, if you wish, but you must be prepared to make your own arrangements.

Program Support

You will be assisted through the application and orientation process by staff of the OUS International Programs Office working in conjunction with your university’s Campus Contact and staff of our Korean university partners. The Yonsei University International Office and the Ewha Womans University International Education Institute will provide you support once the program begins.
